Toys R Us Birthday Registry

I just want to relate to you our experience with the Birthday Registry at Robinsons Place Bacolod. I am not sure if this applies to other branches, but this is particular to the Bacolod Branch.

Anyway, my daughter celebrated her first birthday and we decided to have the registry primarily because we learned that we can get discount cards. If the guests will not buy the gifts, then we can still buy the items at discounted rates.

So we went around the store for almost 2 hours (this is normal for us as we like to browse around their aisles and just let our daughter take in the sights). Then a guy listed the items that we wanted. There were two items that were the last stock, so I told the guy to reserve them for us, as we will buy them immediately after the party if nobody gets them. We were told that our information and discount cards may be picked up after a week and they will just call us when they are already available.

Exactly 7 days after our first visit, I did not get a call. So I called them up. I was transferred to different people until finally, they said they could not find the form that we filled up. What the?!? I told them to find it because we spend nearly 2 hours choosing the items. They said they would call me back. No call after 2 hours and so I called them again. This time, I was transferred to another person who said she found the form and our cards may be picked up the next day. Fine.

The next day, thankfully the cards were ready and we picked them up. But when I looked for the item on reserve to check if it is still there, the staff could not find it. What the?!? How could our guests buy the items when the staff could not find it? Sigh…I got really exhausted with this birthday registry thing.

Then came my daughter’s birthday party. We did not know that a lot of our guests did not understand what a birthday registry was and only 5 people bought gifts from Toys R Us. It was okay. The problem was, from the almost 20 items that we chose and only 5 people buying from the registry, we still got a duplicate item! Imagine that.

So anyway, we had to go back there the day after my daughter’s birthday to have it exchanged. Thankfully it was done with ease.

I just wish that they would have better service after that.

Global Recession

We always thought that the poor remained poor and the rich always became richer, thanks to their businesses. That is just the world’s economy.

But in recent years, we saw billionaires becoming millionaires and millionaires becoming just like the rest of us because of global recession. Of course, the lifestyles of the super rich gone poor include selling yachts, estates in the Caribbean, a private jet, etc., while the poor would sell everything that they have, including their children (if we come to think of it, it also happens to the rich, like forcing their children to marry the child of another rich person to seal in a business deal).

Anyway, we may not really become rich but at least we can live with our finances intact and still enjoy some leisures and luxuries in life if we know how to handle our money. We may not exactly be millionaires but at least we are not in debt. We have to learn how to be disciplined and become good stewards of the resources that God has given us. I have to really control myself from going to the Robinsons mall just so I will not be tempted to get anything at Toys R Us.

We should prioritize needs and wants. We also need to learn about simple economics. There are lots of instructional materials online or we can order them and listen or watch them in our free time. I think that cd rates for such materials are very reasonable and whatever amount we sort of invest on such things will just benefit us anyway.

Wherever we can, let us find ways to earn extra income and let us keep ourselves from unnecessary expenses.

Christmas Shopping at Toys R Us

We are already done shopping for Christmas presents for the children of friends and our godchildren. And most, as in 95% of the toys we bought, were all from Toys R Us. They have a wide assortment of toys for kids of all ages. They have branded toys as well as affordable ones.

Last October, they had a giant toy sale up to 70% off!!!! We really got great bargains from their store, especially educational toys for our baby. The last time we went there, which was just last week, we didn’t notice the time, but we actually stayed there for three hours! We were surprised to hear the mall’s announcement that they will be closing in 15 minutes. If not for that, we would not have noticed that we had been there a long time. We did not even get hungry with all the interesting finds there. Everytime we go to Robinsons Place, we really make sure that we pass by Toys R Us.

One more thing, it is really good to have a look around the aisles because sometimes, they have marked down prices that are really steals. Last time, we went there and got soft blocks made by Shelcore. The original price was P350 but we only got it for P100! The only thing about it was that the box was no longer shiny and had chips on the side. But who cares??? My daughter will be playing with the toys and not the box anyway. hehe

We also went to Toy Kingdom, the newly opened toy store at SM City Bacolod. But we did not enjoy what we found there. But we did see a robot that was on sale and that was the only thing that we bought.

Thankfully, we are almost done Christmas shopping. Just a few more for friends and family. But with the kids, we are done. And we are very pleased with what we got.
