Tiger Woods apologized to all the people last Friday in what many say is a scripted moment in front of the camera. Despite what people say, I take my hat off to Tiger.

The legendary golfer admitted that he was wrong when he committed his indiscretions, saying that he thought being himself made him over and above everything–even the rules of love, fidelity, and marriage. Many people, especially the Golf Writers Association of America, question the sincerity of the public apology, especially that it was not a press conference. They were invited but they could not ask questions, only listen to what Tiger will say. They think that it was an affront to them.

No offense to the GWAA, as I have not really met Tiger in person, not even in my dreams. But I believe, that when a man humbles himself like that in front of the camera like he was talking to the whole world and admitting his faults while his mother looks on, that to me was real manly courage. Maybe he was just not ready yet to answer questions. I believe this was his first official public appearance after the scandal broke out. So I say, let us give him a break. He might have broken our high regard for him, but he admitted his faults and asked forgiveness. I believe that he is sincere when he did that. So maybe, when he is ready, he will come out again and answer questions.

His spirit, ego, etc. were already broken when he humbled himself. I think that subjecting him to more questions, sometimes hard hitting and humiliating, will just serve to further lower his degradation. I think he is already suffering enough and we do not need to punish him more with needless prying. Eventually, but not now.

Tiger, I salute you and what you have done. You are man enough to face the world and apologize. I don’t think your detractors are men enough like you, because I suspect that many of them also have skeletons in the closet and who would not dare come out in the open. Keep your head up!
