Camping with my Family

I would really like to go on a camping trip with my family. There is nothing like the great outdoors to incite a great family adventure. Of course, on top of the adventure, or even more than that, is the family bonding that a camping trip fosters.

There are short trips that can be done. I think in our locality, it would be nice to set up camp at Mambukal Mountain Resort or to pitch a tent at the camp site behind the Ruins in Talisay City, Negros Occidental. Or we can just do it in a beach resort. But sometimes in the beach there are lots of mosquitoes.

Anyway, the problem with camping however is packing things. Especially that we have a young child, we will need to pack a lot of things. It would be nice to have an RV to our name. There are lots of new rvs that can fit any budget in the United States. But here in the Philippines, I think it should be ordered from the United States and imported or something.

Oh well, I guess we will just have to pack our bags in a our small car and still enjoy a camping trip nearby. It should not really be strenuous because we have a young baby. And it should be near civilization. Maybe eventually in the future we can have a grand camping trip.

NFEFI appeals for more funds

I am giving way to the press release that I got from Mr. Robert Harland of the NFEFI in order to raise more funds for the campaign of Negros Forests and Ecological Foundation Inc. If you are able to give, please support the programs of the NFEFI for the preservation of whatever is left of our forests.

THE Negros Forests and Ecological Foundation (NFEFI) is urgently appealing for funds to enable it to continue its fight to protect and conserve the environment of Negros.

For 25 years, NFEFI and its volunteers have been at the forefront of environmental protection, reforesting hundreds of hectares in Negros and establishing one of the country’s top captive breeding programs of endangered species.

“Unfortunately, with rising costs coupled with the economic downturn which has forced some overseas sponsors to cut back, our funds are now precariously low,” said NFEFI vice president Teddyboy Infante.

Infante stressed the critical need to protect the local environment. “The environment is in great danger. We must all act now before it’s too late.”

“Negros is home to many rare and unique species found nowhere else in the world. We all want our children and grandchildren to be able to enjoy the rich and unique biodiversity of the island, especially with such precious assets as the Visayan spotted deer – the rarest and most threatened deer species in the world,” he stressed.

NFEFI needs at least P1-million to keep its programs going for the foreseeable future.

“We need the help of every Negrense, whether living locally, elsewhere in the country or overseas,” added Infante.

Concerned citizens can become sustaining members for only P1,000 a year. Companies and civic groups can become friends of NFEFI for P3,000.

“And we welcome donations and sponsors for programs such as Wildlife Month or other educational campaigns. Whatever citizens can do will make a difference. Every centavo raised from public support is spent to protect and preserve our precious but fragile environment,” he said.

Concerned citizens can now pay online using via PayPal.

Interested donors could call NFEFI at (034) 433-9234 or email negrosforests@gmail.com. Or they can visit NFEFI’s Biodiversity Conservation Center by the lagoon in the heart of Bacolod City. NFEFI’s website is www.negrosforests.org.

The Blade Spa Opens at Mambukal

The Blade Spa is now offering massage services in an Asian-inspired setting at the Mambukal Mountain Resort.

Their services include Swedish Massage, Foot Massage, Body Scrub, Facial, Manicure and Pedicure. They are conveniently located beside the Sulfuric Dipping Pool, so clients can first take a therapeutic bath before getting a massage.

Although The Blade Spa is housed in a native cottage surrounded by a bamboo fence and covered by cogon grass, the interior is by no means rustic. It has a dry area and wet area and a modern shower. It has a body scrub room equipped with a shower.

Visit The Blade Spa from 10am to 11pm. Cottage services also available.
