Mendoza Hostage Drama

Sacked police officer Rolando Mendoza, 55, felt bad about his dismissal from service and hisĀ  losing his retirement benefits. To express his ire, he flagged a tourist bus filled with Hong Kong nationals and held the driver and passengers hostage.

After a whole day of drama, Mendoza was killed, but he also took the lives of six hostages.

This was a crazy day for everyone. And it was crazier because the international press are having a field day. And what is the media trying to tell the whole world?

1. The Philippines is a dangerous place to visit.

2. Our police do not know how to handle a hostage situation.

3. Medical/emergency facilities are not readily available.

Mendoza was demanding his reinstatement to the force. But this move was the craziest thing to do. So he has probably lost his mind during this time. Now, he is dead. And we know how our police are.

Sometimes, the media is already too much. They are like vultures. There is no longer responsibility. This country has soooo much press freedom but there is no responsibility. Do they think that exposing everything that happened at the Quirino Grandstand would bring any good to the Filipino people and the entire country? Does EVERYONE really NEEDĀ  to know? Or they are just concerned with ratings? This is what we get for democracy?
