Senator Mar Roxas withdrew his bid for presidency to give way for the only son of the Philippine’s mother of democracy, Senator Noynoy Aquino.
From the very beginning, Sen. Roxas was among the first who expressed his intention to run for President. He has invested so much in infomercials and in traveling all over the country. Even Ms. Korina Sanchez’ efforts it seems are geared towards the presidency of her fiance.
But despite everything, Sen. Mar Roxas said in a press conference yesterday that he will concede from running for president of the Philippines so that Sen. Aquino can continue with the fight that his mother former President Corazon Aquino had started and so that the Liberal Party will be united.
Sen. Roxas said that he is setting aside his personal political ambitions just so that our country can be united.
I salute this move of Sen. Roxas. I had often wondered allowed why the opposition insists on running against each other and in the end, the bet of the administration party always wins. If only the opposition will be united and pit only one candidate, then they have a good chance of winning. But it seems, everyone is ambitious and nobody wants to give way.
Anyway, I am happy with what Sen. Roxas did. Hopefully, this will be the start of reconciliation and unity among the Liberal Party members and more of them will back out from the race and support Sen. Aquino in the process. If this happens, Sen. Aquino will have a good fighting chance to become the first bachelor president of the country and the second Aquino to occupy the highest position in the land.
