Pacquiao vs. Mosley

I have always been a fan of Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquaio. Who wouldn’t? He is like the modern-day hero of the Philippines.

Although I do not make bets, I have always rooted for him in all his fights, cheering him on while watching TV, and even praying for his success. Whatever his status or controversies are in the Philippines, he is still a Filipino and by winning, he is bringing fame not only for himself but also for the Philippines. And in so doing, he has inspired many young people who never had a direction in life to also pursue boxing and to aspire for greater heights.

On May 7, 2011, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao will be up against another great boxer, “Sugar” Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. Fortunately for Bob Arum, the Pacquaio vs. Mosley tickets are already sold out. So for those interested to watch the fight in real time, the next best thing is to get SHOWTIME pay per view. As for us, we content ourselves with the coverage of whatever local TV station so as not to spend money. After all, we will know who won after a couple of hours. And since we do not make bets, that is fine with us. As long as we know that Pacquiao wins the fight against Mosley, we are okay. haha I think that one TV network will be showing Pacquaio vs. Mosley live highlights so we will just watch that. I will just wait which network that will be.

They say that the Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao vs. “Sugar” Shane Mosley bout is the first big event of the year. It is also the first for Pacquiao and Mosley to be seen on Showtime. Well, this is a record break fight I believe and even coach Freddie Roach is confident that his charge will cream Mosley. Then let us you and I wait and see during the event. Meanwhile, let us remove those hot tub covers and relax. This is Manny’s fight and we would do well to sit back, wait, and pray for him.

Floyd Mayweather Sr Comments on Pacquiao

Floyd Mayweather Sr. — the trainer and father of boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr continues to lambast Sarangani representative Manny Pacquiao with racial slurs.

Pacquaio has the good sense not to make a backlash. I am not sure if Mayweather Sr is just trying to intimidate Pacquiao or that they are just trying to put up a strong front because in reality, they know that his son could not beat Pacquiao. I am reminded of what the bible calls the devil, a lion with no teeth.

Yup, Mayweather Sr is like that–all words and no bite. Honestly, what he is doing right makes him more of a fa**ot than Pacquaio. Oh well, good for you Manny to keep a cool and calm demeanor despite the verbal attacks from Mayweather’s camp.

Speaking of Manny, I thought he will already stop fighting once he gets elected into public office. His fights require him to concentrate and work out his body and mind. And besides, his training requires him to be in the United States (where his fights usually are) for at least a month to acclimatize and all. I think that one will be sacrificed because of his fighting in the ring–it could be his constituents or his fights. I sure hope that he makes up his mind on what he really wants to do in life.

Arnel Pineda and the Pambansang Awit

Journey front man Arnel Pineda made a boo-boo when he sang the Pambansang Awit in his own way at the Manny Pacquaio-Joshua Clottey fight. The National Historical Institute brought the matter to public attention and then Arnel reacted. On TV, he apologized but rather sarcastically, because he said that he is sorry that he did not perform to their (referring to NHI’s standards).

Look, I am not against artistry. Yeah, there should be freedom, but like Uncle Ben in Spiderman said, “With freedom comes great responsibility.” It is the responsibility of the NHI to protect the culture of the Filipino, and along with that is the protection of the National Anthem being sung the right way. It doesn’t matter if Americans can sing their National Anthem in the way that they want, after all, there is no governing body that protects it. But in the Philippines it is different. So is it so hard to abide by the standards set by the NHI?

I think it is also BS that those who have sung the Pambansang Awit in the past during Pacquiao’s fight and who also belted out their renditions came to the defense of Arnel. Christian Bautista said that sometimes, when you are singing, you want to end on a high note for impact. I agree, but that is performance only. The Pambansang Awit is not part of the concert but a tribute to the country where you came from. If you are a true singer, you would know how to sing the national song properly, after all, they are all acknowledged professional singers.

Why do they really want to change the National Anthem? For publicity? For you singers, I think you will have better publicity if you sing it properly and get accolades for the right way of singing.
