“In My Life” is the comeback movie of Batangas Governor Vilma Santos together with her real-life son, actor Luis Manzano and drama prince (at least for me) John Lloyd Cruz. It is directed by premier Filipina director Olive Lamasan.
I think I would want to watch this movie, despite being a dramatic film, because of the poignant story it portrays. It is a love story, however, it is not the conventional love story that is normally accepted. It is the passionate love between two men, thus making their relationship a gay or homosexual relationship. However, for me it is beside the point. The movie just explores how deep a love can develop even between two men, as long as they know the dynamics of what makes a relationship work.
There is also the angle of a mother’s love for her son despite his being gay, a fact that she had not known in the first place. It is so Filipino in the sense that despite the increase in the number of the gay population, many people, especially parents, are in denial. I am not for gay relationships. I am not promoting them. I am not condemning gay people either.
But my point is, this movie is a moving drama that explores the thoughts and emotions of people. We may not be able to easily accept their existence, but they are there, and their love stories are just as passionate as the love shared by men and women.
One thing though, I am not sure if I can open my eyes while the kissing scene of John Lloyd and Luis is being shown. hehe I can already get the point without having to see it. But well, congratulations to both of them–for their boldness and courage to do what it takes to make their movie realistic.
