Ruffa’s Walkout from the Buzz

I really thought that Ruffa Gutierrez and Kris Aquino are good friends. But I guess in the plastikan world of showbiz, you cannot really tell, right?

Take the case of Ruffa and Kris. It was said that Kris gave some snide remarks against Ruffa, although Kris, it was just some sort of lambing. We all know that Kris is the pambansang taklesa, so we can really expect it from her. Ruffa is taklesa as well, so why not? But then the stage mama Annabelle Rama came in and told Ruffa to walk out, as she wasn ot being treated nicely. Duh, as if the guys in her life treated her nicely.

Annabelle is such a pa-papel. Oh whatever, just because they are dressed luxuriously and are glittering with jewelry, they have every right to do what they want. And when Annabelle campaigned for people not to vote for Noynoy, I think that is too much. That is like saying, don’t want Richard’s movies because his sister walked out of The Buzz. I am not for Noynoy, but I think that the attack is too personal.

Hay ewan…bahala na nga kayo diyan.

My Musings About the Presidentiables

The coming Presidential Elections 2010 is fast approaching. Now, more than ever, is there mudslinging between candidates.

I will not make any tirades on candidates, but rather I would like to point out here the things that concern me regarding candidates.

I think that Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro is a very good bet. I think that he is a good leader and would be effective as the chief executive of the land. He is a leader with a sympathetic heart–that is what I see of him. One thing concerns me though, he is the official standard bearer of the administration. I don’t know what gratitude he has to pay President Arroyo and the possible favors that the latter might ask of him. And since he is backed by the admin, could he refuse President Arroyo’s requests?

I think two of the most fitting candidates would be Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay and Senator Dick Gordon. We have seen how the two of them have worked and improved their areas of influence when they were chief executives. So I believe they can do the same for the country. They can just replicate what they had done and do it in a bigger scale.

As for Sen. Noynoy Aquino, I think his influence is more on his family name and his very famous sister, Kris, but not really for himself. I don’t think that he is going to be a strong leader, especially that of our nation. Maybe he has the integrity, but I am not sure of his political will. Legislative is so much different than the executive branch of government. But not too many people understand that.

I think that Mar Roxas would have been a good bet. But I am really afraid of when Korina Sanchez will become our First Lady. Honestly, she has the makings of becoming worse than former first lady Imelda Marcos. We had an inkling of her personality when Mar stepped down from the presidential race to give way to Noynoy Aquino. You know, I have the feeling that if the two of them will win, it will be Sen. Roxas who will have the greater influence on the major decisions for the country.

Manny Villar may present to be the savior of the masses, but really, he is a very good businessman. All the money that is being poured out on ads and campaigns, wouldn’t these be returned later on? These are investments. So how could Mr. Villar recoup his expenditures? Your guess is as good as mine.

In terms of integrity, I believe that Bro. Eddie Villanueva is still the best bet. Despite the protests of many Christians, I think it is still better to root for one of our own. There may be flaws, as nobody is perfect, but I would rather root for the person who fears God the most. The Jews before, as long as their leader feared God and worshipped Him rather than idols, the land prospered. But if their leader went the other way, they were punished.

God help the Philippines. Lord, may you install a righteous leader over us who can lead this nation to righteousness.

Oh

Pinoy Wheel of Fortune

Kris Aquino’s Wheel of Fortune is another “franchise” of the famous Wheel of Fortune from America. The mechanics are pretty much the same, except that Kris has that tacky hand gesture that she does whenever the show is about to cut for commercial break. She does that together with saying the title of the show.

At the same time, most puzzles are in Tagalog, so for an Ilonggo like, sometimes, these are pretty hard.

However, what I notice are the contestants. Sometimes my husband comments something because really, sometimes the contestants are ridiculously slow in solving the puzzle. Sometimes they mention the same wrong or right letter twice or thrice in a single puzzle.

Given, the contestants are nervous. Getting to television for the first time, and in a contest at that, is surely to give one the jitters.

But the think that the main reason that they fail to give the right answer right away or that they are not keenly following the puzzle is this: FOCUS. What I noticed is that all they care about is clapping and shouting and cheering while the wheel is going on. While I believe it is part of the show that they are directed to clap and cheer while the wheel in turning, they should not neglect the puzzle board.

What happens is, after the wheel stops, they are out of breath and still gathering their wits from all the shouting. I believe they could not even hear themselves speak after shouting so loud. When it is a person’s turn, sometimes, he or she fails to say a letter or thinks of the letter. There were even some cases when the buzzer signaled the end of the time and the contestant has not even uttered a letter!

I believe that if the contestants are more concerned with the puzzle board than the wheel, they would be better able to solve the puzzle and the game would become more competitive. As such, I think the game is for the loudest screamer than wits.

On another side, Kris Aquino never fails to bring her personality on TV. Sometimes, she is so amiable and in a good mood, sometimes she is so taray. I hope she should be able to keep her moods aside when she is on cam because sometimes, the hapless contestants get victimized by her sharp tongue. Although sometimes the people can be, let us say, medyo slow…a show’s host does not have the right to insult the contestant. And this is true with other people. People are different. So I hope Kris can keep that in check.
