Annie Le was the graduate student at Yale University who became missing just days before her scheduled wedding with Jonathan Widawsky last Sunday at Long Island. She became missing but was soon found stuffed behind walls inside the laboratory where she is working inside the Yale University campus.
Now what happened to her? Autopsy reports are going to be released today. But initial reports said that there are bloody clothing and bloody parts of the ceiling. Was she raped? Was it a case of love triangle, with another guy wanting her for himself but couldn’t, as she was already getting married?
This is the angle I am looking at because the suspects have been narrowed down to a lab technician who is working with Le in the same building. There was no sign of forced entry into the place, no sign of robbery either, as her belongings at the lab were intact. So it had to be an inside job. The suspect had scratches on his chest, which police say looked like defensive wounds.
Anyway, I am so saddened by an Asian getting victimized in an Ivy League University like Yale. At 4’11″ and 90 lbs., Annie did not much fighting chance with an attacker. I feel such great loss because she was such an achiever, as she was already taking her doctorate in pharmacology in the same uni. For an Asian in a country like the United States, that is already something.
To her family, my condolences. And for her fiance, I pray for God’s strength and comfort.
P.S. The last death at the University was the stabbing of student Suzanne Jovin, who was killed in December of 1998. But she was not killed on campus like Annie Le, rather about 2 miles from the main campus. She was stabbed 17 times but the case was unresolved till now.
