Christmas Started Early at 888 Chinatown Square

Christmas started early at the newest mall in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental–888 Chinatown Square. Going there is like seeing a Festival of Lights as the entire mall is lit up all over from sundown. It is probably the brightest commercial edifice in Bacolod today.

888 only opened this year and it has its fair share of shoppers, especially during weekdays. It is Greenbelt type of mall, with bargain stores, a pharmacy, restaurants, wet market section, and a grocery store. The only thing missing from your regular is probably a cinema.

Mall officer Freddie Ong furnished me with photos of the brightly lit mall. Even if not for shopping, 888 is a stop to visit this Christmas.

Merci Pasalubong Opens at 888 Chinatown Square

Merci Bakeshop and Pasalubong Center opened its seventh branch in Bacolod City at the 888 Chinatown Square, along Gatuslao Street, Bacolod City, last March 27, 2007.

They offer breads, cakes, pastries, drinks, snack items and pasalubong items made by Merci. Pasalubong items by other suppliers are also available.

The new branch is conveniently located at the ground floor, near the main entrance. Last month, Merci Pasalubong Center opened a branch at the Bacolod-Silay Airport, located at the 2nd Floor, Pre-departure, just before the final security check.

Christmas Lights Display

There’s much hype about the Christmas lights display at the Bacolod Capitol Lagoon which only opened last December 15. So I excitedly checked out the place. It was pretty lame though. There were only 4 lighted lanters and yes, the usual giant Christmas tree and nativity scene. Nothing really spectacular.

But well, I changed my perspective and instead relished the scenes like a child. I took pictures of the lanters and they looked lovely on my cellphone screen. I roam around the park and enjoyed the cool air until my hubby arrived. Then together we roamed around again and took pictures and such. It was a lovely night. :-)

Despite the materialism of Christmas, we cannot deny that the air is really festive and the spirits of people are lighter. Even if we don’t have much, we can always find reason to celebrate–just like what I did last night. :-) Happy Holidays! :-)
