Whew! It has been 2 weeks since I have made my last post. I had been caught up in a whirlwind of projects that my mind was sore (if there ever is a condition). I opted to play computer games the last three days–just to empty my head–my NOTHING MODE.
Anyway, tonight is the start of Lovers In Paris–a Koreanovela shown on ABS-CBN, I think, a couple of years back. It was that time when we fell in love with the characters of Vivian, Carlo, and the ruggedly handsome Jerry. This time, ABS-CBN is doing a remake of the much loved show, but this time with Filipino actors and flavor. The 3 main characters are played by KC Concepcion, Piolo Pascual, and Zanjoe Marudo respectively.
I would just like to make a comment about the choice of KC as Vivian. Honestly, I don’t think KC can pull this off. I am not questioning her talent as an actress–it is just that it seems that Vivian’s character and KC’s persona do not really tick. It is kinda off. Was she cast just because she spent some years in Paris and Paris here in the Philippines (at least for the masses) is associated with KC?
In Piolo’s case, I think he is too young to be Carlo. I would have liked an older guy play the part. For now, Piolo does not look distinguished enough….for now. I emphasize that because he lacks the years. Period. For Zanjoe, well, he is okay for Jerry. Rugged, handsome, sexy (at least for many people’s perception, hehe sorry, I don’t share with the others).
Well, I have said my piece. Tonight, I guess I can spare some time to watch, at least the first episode and see if it is worth continuing to watch.
Uhm, Carlo’s nephew was named Martin.
oooppps sorry. haha i must have mixed him up in his other characters. lol thanks girl! will correct.
Personally, I just don’t like Filipinos doing remakes of old Pinoy films or koreanovelas. They just destroy the heart of the story. I just hope that Filipino film makers or local stations would create fresher movies and shows.
By the way, I agree with your comment about the lead characters…hehehe
hi cherry!
yeah, ever since i can remember, i have always questioned, too, why we have remakes. and it is not just once in every sometime…we always do it–movies, tv shows, even game shows (well, at least most of them are franchise now). we are very creative people and yet we rely on remakes. sigh…why can’t we be more original?
i super agree with you…KC is not a good choice for the role… i think they should have chosen Toni Gonzaga if they want to make it work… oh well…

oh yeah toni gonzaga would have been a nice choice. you are right. i have been thinking of the perfect person for the role. and yeah, toni is it.
only you remake – butchered
lovers in paris remake – butchered
everything in this remake seems off.
It’s sad.
and I would have to agree with a lot of people – TONI GONZAGA should have been VIVIAN. The casting is all screwed.
right anna. i wonder why we always have these remakes when it seems not a lot of people are too happy about it? are we the minority and the rest of the masang pinoy love them? why the continued patronage? or we lack variety that is why no matter how much we complain they are still there for lack of anything better to watch?
Generally speaking, some of the Asian dramas are adaptations of another country’s story. Remember Hana Kimi? There’s Taiwanese, Korean and Japanese versions. Remember Meteor Garden, Hano Yori Dango, and Korean F4? All stories have similar story lines but each country/culture adds its own flavor…
And what’s the problem if Filipinos do their remakes as well???? Just stop the crab mentality. Look at the reviews of K-drama, J-dramas, Chinese-dramas. Their respective “brethren” support their dramas and the dramas (some if not all) have become really successful.
Let’s support our Filipino dramas. and it’s totally fine if we do our remakes with our own flavors. Remakes of old original \ filipino films are great too because we need to reintroduce the masterpieces of our Filipino writers to this generation with the current actors/actresses.
And let’s start posting our original Filipino dramas and Filipino remakes with English subtitles on http://www.mysoju.com, http://www.dramacrazy.net, etc.. BUT before we can do that let’s start to pool people online who can be timers, translators, etc. And let’s exchange emails.
LET’S BE PROUD!

I am not a KC fan but I think she’s pulling her act together. Either Toni or KC would do justice to the characters of the FILIPINO VERSION.. again, FILIPINO VERSION.. The Korean actress Kim Jung-Eun who played the lead in LIP did justice to their Korean VERSION…
and I’m surprised too that Piolo is doing his part very well as Han Ki-Joo. Though Piolo’s character as Carlo looks more relaxed and young. But that’s totally fine because it’s OUR VERSION and his character is blending well with the emotion / content of the act = Portraying the battle of being uptight and trying to live up to the expectations of his dad and being relaxed and just trying to live his age.
KC should at least fix her hair more or at least not covering her face too much. Like a nice bed-head but not too messy. And she may be a little bit chubby on screen but it’s totally fine because most celebrities nowadays are way too skinny and what the media is implicitly portraying that skinny is beautiful. Haler, not healthy! A little bit of flesh is good and realistic. (Well, I’m skinny at 98 lbs with 5 feet height.. and I’m trying to gain a little more)..
