A 16-year-old freshman student of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) was reportedly raped by 20 of her male classmates last June 25, 2008.
That was the original report. Although police say that the girl incurred lacerations on her private parts indicating abuse, the report just more than anything raised more questions.
What was she doing with her male classmates in a vacant room?
Why was she the only victim?
What kind of a girl is the victim?
Sometimes, these questions may be harsh for the victim, as she was already abused twice by the same group and yet she is subjected to the questioning of her integrity.
But it turned out that she was invited to a fraternity meeting and when she was enticed to attend a meeting, she reportedly saw the suspects bringing in liquor. She was forced to drink and when she became dizzy, she was subjected to a “frat baptism,” which involved hazing for men or sexual acts for women.
Now, this brings to mind another question about the lure of fraternities especially among freshman students, whether in high school and college. Why are good and nice young men and women being enticed to join a brotherhood with misplaced identities, goals, and objectives? And really, why was the victim alone? Didn’t she have girl classmates that she could have invited? If she invited them and they turned her down, what made her go to that “meeting?”
I am sorry, but I am confused here. I feel bad for the girl for being victimized, but apart of situations when there is really no choice, in this one, the victim apparently brought herself into a situation that could lead to this happening.
I am not sure how this problem about fraternities and girls getting raped may be solved. Is it the government, the school, the society, or the parents? What should families ensure so that their young ones are safe in schools and universities? What should parents do so that fraternities with wrong motives will be eradicated?
This is not just one happening, but a stigma in a society that should be addressed.
I am a member of a fraternity, if I may say. Because it is also a brotherhood. I am a member of a brotherhood under a Heavenly Father. Why not join one like that?
What are our values?
This is very sad and what atrocities! I cannot bear to think that the younger generation is capable of doing such heinous activity, and for what? Hazing? Baptism of fire? Problem is, we don’t know the exact story and how the girl behaved. I just pray that justice will be served.
its very sad news for all the girls and for the families that have daughter..
maybe we need to chose the right organizations where we want to be part of it.
me i joined before the fraternity but i quit becoz i dont like the policy and the member they are bad influence.heheheheh
Magandang araw.
Kahit ano pang sabihin ng tao,WALA naman babae na nais magahasa.
hello everyone! thanks for the comment.
@anino. ur right. nobody wants to be raped, unless really, for some reason, there is a girl who digs some violence.
but sometimes, some girls or even women are not aware that their actions and clothing are already enticing guys. we may be sending them the wrong signal. and when the message is sent to the wrong person, patay na…
Wow posh, is this really true? Though it is definitely not the first case that we’ve heard of, it still makes you wonder what the world is coming to, no?
Sinasabi mo ba na mga kababaihan ang dapat mag-adjust?Ang dapat na magbalot ng katawan upang hindi sila magahasa?
Kung gayun, bakit may mga 60 o 70 years old na nagagahsa?Mayroon ding bata. Hindi naman sila nakasuot ng seksing damit.
all i am saying is that, we should be careful to give the wrong ideas to people. there are some men who are already having the notions and dressing up with almost nothing to hide just makes the situation worse.
