Fireworks and Firecrackers

Christmas has come and gone. Usually, here in the Philippines the sound of firecrackers would resound when December 1 strikes. For no reason at all, even at unholy hours, some inconsiderate persona would light a firecracker, giving him or her the thrills while the rest of the neighborhood mumble some sort of cursive for a nap that was disrupted.

Anyway, this year, we hear less and less of the firecrackers erupting. Of course there are still people who do, but it is significantly less. I think the main reason thereof is lack of finances. Because of the crises, people are thinking twice before spending on something, especially on something that is extravagant and useless such as firecrackers. It is literally burning money. I think this is a good thing. That way, we will have less firecracker injuries this year.

I have nothing against celebrations. In fact, I like them. But for people to splurge so much on firecrackers, I think that is unwise and even unhealthy. Think of the fumes and the noise pollution. We can celebrate without them. A good meal and having the family together are enough.

On a different light, we just thankful that establishments hold their very own fireworks display. That way, we can enjoy a feast for the eyes without having to spend for it. I think it is a much better way than burning firecrackers. Additionally, people can have wholesome fun without the risk of hurting themselves.
