Google has a new gimmick for the winter.

1. Go to Google.com on your browser.
2. On the search box, type the keywords “Let It Snow” and hit “enter”.

Spoiler:
3. You will see that snowflakes will fall down on your computer screen. Eventually, like a windshield, it will be filled with snow.
4. Click on the screen and you can “wipe out” the snow.
5. For faster effect, hit the “defrost” button.

I think it is nice that websites like Google do this. Will it cure the winter doldrums? Probably not. But at least you get to smile at the end of the long day. If you are really bored, then just keep refreshing your screen so that fresh snowflakes with fall.

The header of Din’s Fashion features Dindin sporting a Strawberry Shortcake farm hat as well as other items of fashion for young children. But the blog has expanded to include styles of celebs and socialites.

Din’s Fashion was started because of different reasons. The first one is that this child is fast becoming very fashion conscious.

At a little more than age one, she would choose her own clothes and would even take off her underwear if it does not match the color of her dress. She also knew how to pose. I just thought that she deserved a venue where I could feature her fashion sense and choices.

Secondly, Dindin continually receives clothes, shoes, and accessories from loving friends and relatives who also like to see her looking good. So she has amassed quite a lot. And we really let her wear these items and take photos of her while posing. That is why I have a lot of material for this blog.

That is the reason why Din’s Fashion was born. While it started merely as a fashion blog entirely for Dindin, it has evolved to include fashion statements, styles, products, accessories, celebs, and the like. After all, there is just so much to write about fashion because every day, everybody lives in that world.

Honestly, I used to think that Google is such a great big company that it was able to make its business big and has bought out many online services. Its biggest competitors then, like Yahoo, have stepped aside because it seems there is no stopping them.

But when their former CEO Eric Schmidt admitted openly that they are losing out on Facebook, that came as a surprise. Google’s hold is mainly on the search engine base, but Facebook’s algorithm links both users and the net and in an instant, they can match the queries to the profiles of their users. This is much more powerful because there are no bots second guessing what the user wants. The users themselves have put this on their profile.

In short, should Facebook pursue the search engine genre, which is not unlikely considering that they have refused offers from Google, they have the capacity to win it over Google. Imagine that.

A couple of years ago, Google was the giant that could not be touched. Now, they are furiously researching on ways how to put Facebook down. Well, let us see. Maybe we should have micrometers installed in our computers and see who is winning this race, no?

Incidentally, I don’t like the many developments that are happening with Facebook recently. First it was the photo viewer and now the cached messages. Well it is good to have cached chat history like what we have in YM, but what I do no like to see are my chat history mixing with the private messages. And when you send PMs, you can no longer put titles or subjects and it is difficult to trace. Their notification also no longer comes individually but are lumped together.

I don’t know who is instigating all these changes, but why change something that works well? That is what I don’t like with Facebook. They keep on changing things, which makes it cumbersome to use.

I am thinking of making more blogs. haha I just have things that interest me and I would like to write about them in a separate blogs than this and my Mama blog.

But the big question would be, would I have the time to maintain them?

Would they be free hosted? I could easily start a Blogger or a WordPress blog. So what do I do?  Hmmm…questions, questions. Am I making sense?

If not, then my apologies. I am already sleepy. I guess I need to sleep now.

Thanks to my online friends, I have come to know the “Broken Links Checker” WordPress Plugin. Yes, it is a plugin that you have to install in your WordPress blog and it lets you know if there are broken links in your site.

It does not matter why the links are now broken but this plugin lets you know about it so that you either fix the link, delete it or to simply unlink. As you may know, broken links do not make your site look in search engines.

It is simple to download and use the Broken Links Checker. So do so now. It will greatly help your blog.

My mother sent me a text message earlier this morning that Friendster, blogs, and pixes will be erased from the net this coming May 31. I was like what???

Then I heard the news–Friendster reformat is coming on May 31. Yes, peeps, friendster is going to revamp their site–for its improvement, I believe, and because of this move, all the stuff that you all have uploaded will be deleted. It is like the reformat of your hard disk, you have to make a back up so that you will not lose your precious data. The site admin is suggesting that the photos be saved to the online photo storage site called multiply.

Honestly, I think this is such a crazy move. I mean, I believe that if their techies are good, they can upgrade Friendster without having to wipe out the slate. Or maybe they are doing this so that they can weed out those who are no longer using Friendster much and also rid their site of all the files uploaded there by inactive members. So I dunno.

I have not been using Friendster much since I preferred the user-friendly applications of Facebook. So I don’t really care–they can delete my data there for all I care. I am not affected. But if you still care about your Friendster account, then better back up your files there and just upload them again whenever Friendster is ready.

The Visita Iglesia, or the Station of the Cross, is a traditional practice of devout Catholics here in the Philippines during the Holy Week. When I was young and we would go out on a Good Friday, we would see throngs of people walking, enduring the heat of the sun, as they go to each cross, pay penance, and pray. I grew up with this sight each year.

But now I read that there is also the online Visita Iglesia. Wow! Even the station of the cross has gone high-tech! The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is now making sure that their internet capacities are enough for this year’s flock of visitors.

With the fast-paced lifestyle of Filipinos who are living in our country, this could be the answer to those who could not physically go out during the Holy Week and do their penance. Also, OFW can still join in the essence of the Semana Santa because of this. They might not be able to come home, but still they can join in the observance of the Holy Week that is unique to the Filipino culture.

Anyway, the site shows 14 historical shrines and pilgrimage churches both located in Metro Manila as well as in nearby provinces. These correspond to the 14 Stations of the Cross. Each photo also comes with reflections that will surely nourish the spirit.

But I do hope that those who are able will not make the Online Visita Iglesia as an excuse not to go out and do the usual practice. hehe

I just want to share this photo taken several years ago when we went to Iguig, Cagayan Valley. It is a site that is most often visited by devotees.

I wonder if people like Gretchen Rossi, Danielle Staub, and Greg Mortenson would also take part in our Visita Iglesia. Hmmm….

Several years ago, I had an old blog that was hosted freely. I was pretty happy with it, updating it now and then, if there is something interesting happening in my life.

During those times, I was also clicking ads in paid to click sites. It was also doing well but at that time, Paypal processing was not available here in the Philippines, so I kinda just waited it out until my earnings increased.

Then PTC sites had a problem with Paypal and many of them were forced to abandon their members even if they were unpaid. You can convert your earnings into advertising exposure but you cannot cash out. I felt that I really did not have any option so in order to me to just get the best worth for my efforts in clicking their ads, I decided to advertise my blog and avail of their pay per click services. After all, I thought, what have I got to lose?

As it turned out, a lot. You see my blog had some ads on it and the ad company forbade it to advertise your site in a payperclick site because that would encourage clicks and the traffic is not quality. Gee, I was banned in that ad network and all my earnings gone.

Sigh…and I thought I won at least something but in the end I lost the battle.

I have been blogging for quite some time now…I mean for several years already. I just don’t care if I am read or not as long as I get my message across.

I do get traffic to my sites, but sometimes it is just frustrating to get useless traffic. And the worst part are those spam comments. No matter how much I black list an IP address, an email address, or a site, it seems that they still come back to haunt me.

Maybe instead of just focusing on getting people to come to my site, I should be more interested on getting quality readers to my site. Aside from SEO, I think I should also look into CRO or conversation rate optimization for my sites.

It just sucks having useless traffic. Sure my sites are getting more popular especially if I write quality content consistently, like everyday or every other day, but the useless traffic gets tiring. Ugh…And I hate having to keep deleting comments. It is just time consuming and a waste of time.

Anyway, I have a backlog in blogging because of our trip to Manila. I hope to be blogging some more in the coming days. But today, I just started with a rant. haha OH well…

Today is the first official working day of the year 2011.

I saw official because except for those industries that never close like the hotel and hospital, pretty much all offices open today. Or at least later today.

But I have deadlines that should have been met last week during the holidays. But instead of working, I partied. hahaha Not that I have any regrets because I was able to celebrate and spend time with family and friends.

The sad part is that instead of being able to work when I get home, I could not because it was either I was already too sleepy or because I had some alcohol consumption. Tsk. tsk…bad.

Now I am trying to finish my work. I have an 8-page newsletter to finish and I have two meetings later today. I slept around 1am just awhile ago and woke up three hours later to a loud thud. I had to work on putting my baby back to sleep and by the time she did, I could no longer go back to sleep. So I might just as well continue working.

But now I am tempted to gallivant and try to play. Okay, I say tempted because I am not really the betting time because I am not a risk taker. I do not even consider myself as a businesswoman because I am afraid to take risks. Even my investments are on medium risk scale. Yep, no stocks for me because I could not take checking stock values that go up and down everyday. hehe

Oh well…Argggh…I need to work but could not seem to focus. Would playing help?

Sometimes, I just find myself facing the computer and tapping on the keyboard or clicking on the mouse without any particular purpose. Sometimes it is just that I have nothing to do. Sometimes I do that because I have reached my nothing mode–when I am just way over my head with stress and pressures that I need to let some of them go.

There are times when just researching about the terms that come to mind in any search engine would just get me refreshed. Although I am learning, there is no pressure and I get to learn trivia from different websites.

All these browsing sometimes lead to me many different kinds of sites, some of them free gaming sites. Sometimes I try those free gaming sites. But what I don’t like is getting to register or sign up. It is just me because I hate filling up online forms. haha I am just so lazy.

But I think it is nice to have online games like that because if you want to play and not want to go out, get dressed, and travel some distance, then the online version would be just as good. Well, there are no warm bodies to say hi to or to drink with or to haggled with, but I guess that is okay to do once in a while.

It is so nice to have online versions of what we usually do real time because we remain comfortable in our rooms and still enjoy our usual activities.
