Pilipinas Got Talent vs. Talentadong Pinoy

Last week, Pilipinas Got Talent, the franchise talent search, was first aired on ABS-CBN on the same timeslot as Talentadong Pinoy of TV5.

We have always watched Talentadong Pinoy every Saturday. I even blogged about it one time that they really should give a bigger prize to the Hall of Famer because it is not easy to win for five consecutive weeks. And I am thankful that the seven talents who made it to the Hall of Fame will be able to compete for the Ultimate Talentadong Pinoy title next Saturday for the Talentadong Pinoy Battle of the Champions to be held at the Araneta Coliseum. Up until tonight, they are still looking for the wild card who will join the battle.

Anyway, last week we decided to check Pilipinas Got Talent. I can only describe it in one word–BORING. Talentadong Pinoy is more interesting. I dunno, it is the show itself. Unlike America’s Got Talent or Britain’s Got Talent where the show is already entertaining in itself, I got bored like the judges themselves. I would really like to see Kris as her taray and taklesa self, as it will really make the show more interesting, but I am sure she will not do that and risk losing votes for brother Noynoy Aquino who is running for President. Really, I find the show boring. So sorry, but Pilipinas Got Talent did not tickle our fancy and so after a few minutes, we went back to watching Talentadong Pinoy. We just love this show, the hosts, and the talent scouts.

Additionally, what is with the Pilipinas Got More Talent? At first I did not understand what the show was about. Then I thought it was the auditions, until I got to see that the auditions were hosted by Luis Manzano and Billy Joe Crawford, who, I should say are really good together as hosts. They can really host a show, but sadly, even their hosting prowess could not make me stay glued to the show. Okay, going back to Pilipinas Got More Talent. I hate to say this, but what is this show for? And Mark Abaya? He is OA. He is just overdoing the wacky bit and he is not effective. He is not a funny man and he is just trying to be one. Sorry, I don’t like him at all. Both the show and the host are not effective. Erk! I would rather much have that funny guy on Showtime who is actually a band member? I forgot his name or the name of the band, but I cannot forget the face of that funny guy. Now, I think he should have been host of Pilipinas Got More Talent.

Oh well whatever, I just won’t watch these shows.

By the way, for the Ultimate Talentadong Pinoy, my bets are either Wan Lu, Makatatawanan or the Tribal Fire Dancers. We will see.

Shamu Kills Trainer

Shamu is the affectionate name for all the killer whales in Sea World, either in Orlando, Florida or in San Diego, California. And ever since they were introduced in the parks, they have not really seriously hurt their trainers. Not until recently.

I have been to Sea World in Orlando and I have personally witnessed the Shamu show at the Shamu stadium. And I loved it! I adored the whales in this setting because they performed really well. And even if there were glitches, not that there were any, you would understand because these aren’t human. I really loved that show.

That is why I am really saddened to learn that one of them killed a trainer. According to the Orlando Sentinel, “(Trainer Dawn) Brancheau, 40, was petting and otherwise interacting with the killer whale in knee-deep water about 2 p.m. Wednesday when he grabbed her by the ponytail and wouldn’t let go, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office determined.” The trainer’s cause of death was “multiple traumatic injuries and drowning”.

And what I am really concerned about was that it happened during a show where thousands of people are watching. I believe that at any given time, thousands of people of all ages are watching the show. The stadium is always packed, I was told.

When I was in Florida last time, I also heard that Pluto fell off the float during the Disney Parade and the guy inside the costume died. What horror these instances give the kids! But well, I guess accidents can happen in the most unexpected places. There is no one really to blame. I should know!

New Year Packing

Wow! It has been more than a month after New Year!

The days are so fast if you are busy. But if you are not, you just seem to be dragging through the days. I thank God for the new year, the new hope, the new opportunities. It had just been exciting.

One thing that I would like to do is to get some rearranging and packing done. As you all know, we live in a single room with three small closets and a toilet and bath. There is really not much space and we have a growing child. Most of the stuff that we actually have are hers.

And over Christmas, we have collected so much stuff already! How I wish we can have an extra room here in the house or if not we can already have our own house so that we have more space. But for now, we just could not afford it so we will have to make do.

I just got really busy after the New Year that I was not able to do some packing. But I will have to. We will have to buy some containers where we will put our stuff and then maybe put them in the hallway outside our room. It would be nice to have a space for self storage, much like the Self Storage Reddish so that we can just rent a small space outside the house and put some of our stuff there, especially our wedding gifts that are still unused at the moment. We have not used the gifts because we live with my husband’s parents and we just use pretty much everything that they have. So that is it.

Ahhh…I will have to make time to sort out through our things.
