Thoughts on Kindness

I am sharing with you an excerpt from an article written by John W. Kennedy, which I got from the Christianity Today.com newsletter. I think this pretty much sums up kindness–giving to others sacrificially without expecting anything in return. It is unselfish because it doesn’t serve our interests. It is giving out of compassion, not out of the desire for God to bless us more. Kindness is not an investment for material blessings, but happens because of compassion. A kind person will share what he has and hopes to see that his kindness will pay off when the other person also becomes kind to others.

That I am working on. I can be kind to others, especially when the Lord leads me to do something for someone else, whether I know him or her personally or not, and whether that would entail service, money, food, or time on my part. However, there are just two people that I find it hard to be kind to, and which I am asking the Lord to work in my heart. I find it hard to be sincerely kind to them, because deep in my heart, i believe that they are not sincere to me as well. However, God didn’t say that I should only be kind to the kind, but to everyone. So please help me God.

Here is the article:

Re’na Garcia is a 24-year-old wife and mother of two preschoolers, a full-time nanny to two other children, and director of student ministries at a Nashville Evangelical Covenant church. She leads a busy life, but her favorite part of the day is when she goes out to RAOK her world—as in performing “Random Acts of Kindness.”

“God puts people in our lives everyday for us to touch,” Garcia says. “So many times we’re too busy and we miss those opportunities.”

Garcia believes that RAOK—doing something nice for other people with no expectation of anything in return—is simply living out the compassionate and unselfish attitude that Jesus expects of His followers.

“People were drawn to Christ not because He stood on a mountain and preached, but because He filled their needs,” Garcia says. “He fed them. He healed them. He touched lives.” People may be more open to hearing about the gospel as they see us modeling Christ’s behavior, Garcia says.

Happy New Year!

Alright, this might sound a bit delayed…I wrote this on my other blog, but I am moving this here…

*********************************************************

Yeah, it has been an exciting year, and there had been many firsts. This year I got married and now living with Dennis and his family. This year, I have so much to be thankful for, and this entire blog would be filled if I were to enumerate them.

Yesterday was my father’s 61st birthday and so we had lunch there. Of course, our entire Lo family joined us, along with Ptr. Dave, Gervilyn, and the kids. Then in the evening, we went to church, where my in-laws had a presentation. It was wonderful evening, filled with fun, great food, and a good show. But more importantly, it was a night of fellowship between families. When I talked with our godmother, Ms. Esther Jane Uy, she said she is so happy to see families coming together and enjoying and having fun. Indeed, Christmas is really for fellowship.

This year, Dennis and I received so many gifts. Food, money, clothes, cards, meaninful letters, other stuff. We are a double force now, and so, blessings have doubled, too. Praise God for His mercies. We thank the Lord for family and friends who remembered us and who are willing to share their blessings to us, not only during Christmastime but the whole year through. We also thank those who continue to lift us up in prayer, especially in the area of my husband’s work and ministry in TCF.

Two of our godmothers gave us some money for Christmas and we will be able to have our wedding album printed–hehe finally! Hopefully if I have time, I will be able to share the album pages here. :-) hehehe

Anyway, about my parents, I am glad that we were able to spend lunch and some time during the night with them. You see, this year, my parents suddenly found themselves with an empty next. I got married in May and my brother moved to Manila in November. And since he is new on the job, he can’t come home for Christmas. At least he has my uncle, Tito Nene, in Manila so he has family there. But well, this is the first time that he is away from home for Christmas, so it is quite sad at opposite ends. At least my mother was busy yesterday, cooking for lunch and for the dinner of the church’s children’s choir, so she had no time to be melancholic. hehehe

Thank God for His grace that has been abundant to my families. May your Christmas be filled with love, peace, and joy. Let us remember that giving doesn’t stop here, it continues the whole year through. God bless us all! :-)

From the Lo family (Joey, Maricar, and EJ included) to yours — Merry, merry Christmas and a peaceful, joyful, and love-filled New Year!

Flowers by the Wayside

As you may have noticed, I added a blog here at blogspot. I am closing my own domain and transferring the contents here. It is called Flowers by the wayside. The link is also located on the right side column of this blog.

The inspirationals carried there are all my original writings, gleaned from my learnings as the Lord molds me.

Hope you read them and that you will be blessed as I had been.

Take care always and God bless!
